Who We Are

thesolarcharity is a global development charity partnering with communities in remote and underserved areas of Africa to combat poverty and address the climate crisis by providing access to clean, safe solar lighting.

At thesolarcharity, we believe that everyone, no matter where they live, deserves access to clean and safe solar energy.

For millions across sub-Saharan Africa, daily life comes to a halt when the sun sets. Yet, the solution is simple: solar lights. With a single switch, solar lights empower families to earn, enable children to learn, and help the planet breathe a little easier.

In collaboration with rural communities, local entrepreneurs, and development partners, we’re creating innovative solutions to bring clean, safe solar power to every home, school, and clinic.

Our Vision and Mission

Our vision is a world where clean, renewable energy is accessible to all.

A world where farmers can have access to water and power to cultivate and harvest their crops. Where children in underpriviledged societies can study and pursue their dreams. Where hospitals can safely deliver babies through the night and power medical equipments. And where the planet breathes a little easier.

We strive for a future where even the poorest and most remote communities are not left behind. A future where entrepreneurs have the resources to grow their businesses, generate sustainable incomes, and illuminate their communities in the process.

Vision
Mission

Our mission is to illuminate every home, school, and clinic in Africa with safe, clean solar power.

Together, we're turning light into progress.

Today, people across sub-Saharan Africa live without access to electricity. For millions, the setting sun marks the end of their working day. For others, the only option is to rely on kerosene lamps and paraffin candles, which release toxic fumes into their lungs and harm the planet’s atmosphere.

Lack of access to clean, renewable energy leaves the communities we serve even more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. But there’s a straightforward solution with immediate benefits: solar power. We believe every community in sub-Saharan Africa deserves access to clean, safe, solar-powered light and electricity.

Regions We Serve

We reach the most remote and disadvantaged communities in the world to create sustainable help for renewable energy so no one is left in the dark.

Our history

When thesolarcharity was established to combat poverty and climate change, we set a bold vision: to create a world where everyone has access to clean, renewable energy. Our mission was clear to eliminate the dangerous and unhealthy polluting kerosene lamp from Africa.

Our journey began when we donated and installed our first solar street light system in a community in africa. We donated solar water, lights in rural schools, health clinics, and community centers. We also empowered local electricians to design, assemble, and sell small solar lights and chargers.

In subsequent years, we expanded further:

  • Launched operations in various remote comunities in different countries.

  • Pioneered solar light libraries allowing students to borrow lights through their schools.

  • Introduced the solar light, designed to lower the cost of solar lighting while maintaining high quality.

  • Developed innovative projects to address barriers preventing low-income groups from accessing solar solutions.

  • We introduced mobile solar irrigation systems to help farmers in region that don't have access to water during the dry season..

  • Solar water were donated to schools and communities

  • Solar power systems were donated to hospital to provide light for safe delivery, to power oxygen machines and other medical equipments during power outtage.

  • Solar phone charging system were donated to communities with power outtage and business to solar enterpreneurs

  • Solar street lights were donated to trading areas/markets to enable them sell at night and to communities with security issues.

  • Solar electronics like hand held torch lights and hand held fans were built in partnership with global manufacturers and donated accross communities in africa.

To date, our work has directly impacted over 12 million people, with many more benefiting from the scaled-up growth of solar markets we helped catalyze. However, much remains to be done, as countless homes, schools, and clinics are still left behind.

thesolarcharity is intensifying its focus on pioneering innovations and forging partnerships to prioritize delivering solar lights and solutions to those who need them most. Our goal is simple: by 2035, every home, school, and clinic in need across Africa should have access to solar power and lighting.

Partners we work with

We collaborate with companies to illuminate the lives of those who need it most. Our corporate partners and their employees are essential in making clean, safe, and affordable lighting accessible to all.

We are committed to forging partnerships that provide real value for our corporate allies. We support them in achieving their ESG goals, inspire and engage their teams, and deliver compelling case studies that highlight the impact of their contributions.

The solar charity's impact on providing clean water and electricity in third world countries is truly life-changing.
